In December 2012, we were proud to introduce the Grand Opening of The Marching Podcast Nalia Store. We partnered with SpreadShirt.com to create products with The Marching Podcast logo. With the money we earn from the store, we originally wanted to create college scholarships, but now with the development of the scholarship fund with Sharon Reed and HBCU News.net, the money we make will be to support all business for The Marching Podcast, including scholarships and helping to improve the show and our store. We have upgraded our store with a new plan and a new URL: http://marchingpodcast.spreadshirt.com!
Following the theme in investing in our youth and building economics in our community, we have invested into DaEdge1 productions and Block Band Music to create apparel stores for their companies, respectively. We hope this will help spread the word about their businesses, and we want to make a statement that we are supporting our own economic destiny. We now have new functionality with ads and marketing widgets that we can use on our website, social media alerts, and each store will publish newsletters with special deals and discounts to be mailed to the masses. With new merchandise from baby clothes to computer accessories, we are proud to announce the giveaway segment for #The90DegreeShow for the Fall of 2014. The gifts we give away will be items from each apparel store, but we are also opening the door to encourage our sponsors to donate their products to promote over the airwaves. The prizes will be awarded to the people who are listening live with more details to be announced later.
In conclusion, we would like to open the door for employment with The Marching Podcast by opening two positions with the network: Director of Merchandising & Apparel Designer. Send your resume to The Marching Podcast email address to inquire about the positions.
We are excited to reach another milestone here at The Marching Podcast, and we are honored and blessed for the support we received to get this done. We applied for a trademark for TMP in late 2012, and in May of 2013, we officially received the trademark…or so we thought. Later we received an email from Trademarkia, the company that published the trademark said that we needed to file a Notice of Allowance. “What is this?” I thought. The Notice of Allowance means the government will give me my trademark, if I submit a proof of use that shows that I am currently using said trademark.
I added a picture of one of the T-Shirts from the Marching Podcast Nalia Store and added all the information in the form. I then click on the next button and of course another fee!!! …and this is more expensive than the trademark form I filled out last year!!!! It is significant to acknowledge all of the hoops and red tape needed to push your business in our society. One of our investors, Jack Lukehart Jr., who supports the network, laughed with me about this when we asked for his help. He said that things like this are in place to deter anyone from running a business, it may seem like a lot of work and extra money every year, but the effort to cut through the red tape should be for the benefit of why the business stands. I sat back and realized how correct he was, because my initial thought should not be one of an obstacle, but more work and more savings to help provide scholarships to young people so they can learn about and become successful in the world of business and beyond.
Starting this business has been an incredible learning experience and my lesson here in this particular case is that I should be prepared for any fees and/or new taxes that may appear to hinder my path. In actuality, this is part of the work that I need to do to make the world a better place. Other than learning lessons, I want to send a shot out to the investors that without any hesitation donated to the cause. I talked to Chuck Moore about my frustration of needing money to make things happen, and he told me that choosing anger and frustration is a choice. I can also choose to do what I can to swim or to stay alive. Our Director of Editing Collin Welbon, was out of work, but still wanted to help us keep our trademark alive. Not too long after he said he would help, he found a nice, full-time gig. So in this process of establishing a trademark, I am learning from the business but also learning life lessons from the people that love and support the cause. All established through friendship which is essential to the soul. 🙂
I am very thankful for the type of people we have in our network and having good people around us is the real reason The Marching Podcast is alive and growing. Also shot out to our normal sponsors and patrons that donate every month. This Notice has been filed and I am awaiting further correspondence.

We are proud to announce that the THE MARCHING PODCAST trademark is currently live and appears to be in good standing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The current status is PUBLICATION/ISSUE REVIEW COMPLETE. A detailed history of THE MARCHING PODCAST trademark can be found on Trademarkia at the link below.
This process took awhile to complete. We submitted the paperwork back in December of 2012 and in May of 2013 we got the approval. The timing is perfect because we are celebrating our one-year anniversary this month, and we are broadcasting some great interviews and our special anniversary show on May 19.
We are now free to put our logo on all types of merchandise and are ready to start pushing the sales of our apparel store ‘Marching Podcast Nalia’ to help build the network and our scholarship fund. Here is the link to our merchandise store:
We are proud to announce that we are now accepting donations to fund our scholarship program. We stated in our Recap and Thanks episode that we want to start building college and DCI scholarships. Currently our ways of building money is through the Google Adsense on our website and purchasing apparel at the Marching Podcast Nalia store. Now we have implemented a donations button on our website so that anyone can support our cause and instantly give what is in their heart to the scholarship fund and/or to improve the network.
Go to the website at http://themarchingpodcast.com/ and you will see a yellow donations button on the right side of the front page and on each secondary page in the yellow box under the podcast episodes. This is done through PayPal and the money will be put into our business account for scholarships and we will announce the scholarship criteria and application process later this year 2013. We appreciate the support for our show and we ask that you give to provide someone the opportunity for higher education through the marching experience.
I am very excited to announce that The Marching Podcast will be upgrading its service with Blog Talk Radio. This change will allow us to be able to broadcast 45 min, 60 min, 90 min and 120 min shows. This gives us a lot more flexibility and the opportunity to spend more time (beyond the current 30 min time window) depending on the topic of the show. We are also happy to announce that the times for the show will be changing to prime time hours. Prime time hours is the block of time when most people in the country are at home on their computers doing work, surfing the internet, listening to podcasts, etc. Prime time hours on Blog Talk Radio are from 7 PM (EST) to 11 PM (EST). The Marching Podcast will start to broadcast its shows during this peak time with hopes of getting more listeners, especially during the work week. Blog Talk Radio will also market the show 5,000 times per month on their website to help grow listeners. The time slot for the shows will be TBA.
This service is a paid service to enable all of the functionality stated above. To pay for this effort, we are proud to introduce our new team of sponsors that will be helping to improve the show and also get their businesses out to more people. A win-win situation as they say. The sponsors will help pay for the monthly service and in return we will promote their businesses through commercials on our show, as well as through Facebook and Twitter. In addition, we will create merchandise for each company through our apparel store: Marching Podcast Nalia.
At this time, we do not want to open the flood gates for all sponsors, but we want to plug the businesses that we believe in here at The Marching Podcast, and businesses that we want to see grow and stand for the same principles and benefits that have surrounded The Marching Podcast since its inception. We would like to introduce our first team of sponsors for The Marching Podcast. Please check out their information below, and we thank them very much for their support. Combining our forces is not only a blessing but a blueprint for our young people to follow.
We are excited to introduce the Grand Opening of Marching Podcast Nalia. We have partnered with SpreadShirt.com to create products with The Marching Podcast printed on them. With the money we earn, we are creating college scholarships. The scholarships will be for students that select a historically black college to attend and participate in the music program/ensemble in the music program. The store has things for men, women, children and babies. We have clothing, accessories, school supplies, coffee mugs, bags, blankets, and much more. We will add more products every day, so if you don’t see what you want, check back later. We are also in the works of trademarking The Marching Podcast and our logo so we can put the logo on these products.
