The 2013 Marching Podcast People’s Choice Awards

Welcome back to the 2013 college football season, which also means it’s time to welcome you all back to the 2013 Marching Podcast People’s Choice Awards! The TMP People’s Choice Awards are based on voting from you (the fans) on our website. Each week in our featured match up, we are looking for some numbers from our fans so we can keep our ear to the street. If you can’t call in live, you can go to our website and vote on who you think won the featured match-up. On the following week’s show, we will close the polls and read the results live on the air. At the end of the year, we will present the winners of each week with the prestige of the award.

Just go to The Marching Podcast Website and vote today!!!

The New 90 Degree Show!

We had a great time recapping the Boombox Classic, but we could have gotten more insight from more people. With more exposure and more popularity, any topic will get a certain number of callers, but right now and moving forward, we want to fill the thirty minutes we have with as many battle experiences as possible. If someone has a great experience they like to share but was not at a game that we focus on, they more than likely will not call in to the show. This weekend made me think of this when the BCU vs. NC A&T was played under hurricane conditions so not a lot of footage was available. The most coverage of any game I was exposed to was the SU vs. Alcorn State game, and our co-host Chris Jones attended a battle of the bands in South Carolina that he wanted to share with everyone.

After these events and more discussion, we have decided to let the 90 Degree Show be a listener’s chance to call in and share their experience at whatever game they may have attended the previous day. We will still ask our standard questions to add content and conversation to the call. We will try to implement this format for today’s show, and from this Sunday forward throughout the season, we will try to recap as many battles as we can each week. In the off-season, we will tackle topics of discussion like we started to do this spring. Here are our standard battle questions:

Best Sound
Better Marching
Best Drum Majors
Best Section
Better Halftime Show
Better Stand Performance
What was crankin’?
What was stankin’?
What were they thinking?
Your two cents

To my surprise….

So I am all excited about my blog and trying to get this podcast going and to my surprise I find this has already been done…WTF….yes I know trippin’ me out. There are some good current resources for marching band discussion, videos, blogging etc. MarchingNetwork, the5thquarter, MarchingSport.

These are some good sites and it’s really cool that my ideas someone else is thinking about them and they have been in the works. I would like to help and assist if I can but what I can’t do is quit. Having an idea is a responsibility and I can not get discouraged if someone has beaten me to the punch. Funny enough the same thing has happened already on this path. I originally wanted to create a battle of the bands to LA to get exposure here and to get more young black males interested in college. I later find that the HomeDepot Center has a battle of the bands in Carson, CA already and is a great tool for exposure and recruiting for Band directors. Tamala Jones is the POC when contacting about this event. I would like to interview her for the podcast but she said I have to go through some channels. Hopefully this will be nothing but understandable. I emailed her and she said that the event is every two years and will be back in 2012. Hopefully by then I will be apart of the equation somehow 😉 She went to Spelman like my mom so I am sure she is doing a good job. I will update the interview list later in the week.

Anyway I find through the forum 5thquarter that there is a 5thquarter podcast and a HBCU marching band podcast on itunes. I find it and it is old and it looks like they are not doing it anymore or something. I tried to leave a trail on the internet about my idea and my willingness to help in any way so we will see what I pick up. I have subscribed to the podcast and listened to some of it. The discussion was about the selection of schools for the Honda classic.
